ECSN Objectives of the European Climate Support Network The objective of ECSN is to organize improved co-operation of its Members in the field of climate and related activities in order to expand their capabilities to support the European user community through enhanced provision of a) high quality climate data and products, b) services and advice based on the Members climate expertise.
ECSN Cooperative activities of the European Climate Support Network a) exchange of information: through publication and dissemination of ECSN activities; updated European Climate Assessment; conferences, workshops and training; b) data projects: critiquing data, analyzing them, constructing data sets, developing catalogues and meta data; c) collaborating in climate research: new directions and further collaboration in research into climate variability and predictability; d) services and advice based on the Members climate expertise.
EUMETNET Climate Change Services Working Group • The Working Group does “Niche finding” for EUMETNET (NMSs) • Will write a report by November 2010 • Analysis of the European playing field for climate information. • Now: information gathering • Questionnaire • Interviews • Existing knowledge/studies

Outline of the ECCSWG Report CHAPTER OUTLINE • Context and vision.What prompted the writing of this report? • User needs.Who needs which climate change services in Europe? • Information sources.Who are the key actors that generate climate information in Europe? • Climate services.Which actors are already providing which climate (change) services? • Playing field.Local and regional(adaptation) challenges and (political) forces that determine the playing field. • Role of the NMHSs.What are the unique strengths of our community in this area? How could we best build on existing structures and practices? • Recommendations and options.What could or should be the role of EUMETNET and the member NMSs
Timeline 2010 ECCSWG • *16 March: EAC meeting Larnaca. Brainstorm • *12 May Preparatory CCSWG meeting Brussels • Mid May – End June: Information gathering • *24 June: CCSWG meeting in Offenbach • Early July – Mid Aug.: Analysis of gathered info. The result will shape chapter 6 “Role of NMSs & EUMETNET” • Mid Aug. – Mid Sept.: Drawing conclusions. The result will shape chapter 7 “Recommendations and options” • *Mid September: 8th ECAC conference. Will use to discuss/sharpen the “Recommendations and options” • Mid Aug. – End Sept.: Writing the report • October: Production of the Report and submission to the GA • Mid. November: EUMETNET Assembly receives the Report.
