  1. New Hampshire Communities for Children Safe Schools/Healthy Students

Goals of the Grant • #1 Create and sustain safe and supportive schools via a formal state level collaborative cross-agency structure. • #2 Improve the social and emotional skills and preparedness for long-term educational success, birth to five years. Develop cross-sector collaboration within each LEA.

  3. Goals of the Grant • #3 Improve the mental, emotional and behavioral health of children through early identification and intervention. • #4 Reduce the need for out-of-home placement, hospitalization, or incarceration of children. Mental Health Centers will provide the support.

  4. Goals of the Grant • #5 Increase family involvement for youth within goal #4. • #6 Reduce risk factors for drug and alcohol misuse.

  5. Grant will Provide • LEA Project Grant Manager • LEA Early Childhood Coordinator • Project Manager Assistant • PBIS Training

  6. Key LEA Activities • Hire Project Manager, Early Childhood Coordinator, and Assistant • Engage family and youth in all aspects of family planning • Conduct LEA Needs Assessments • Work with State to create an LEA Plan and select evidence based practices • Help at least one early childhood provider to get Early Childhood and Family Mental Health Credential

  7. Ongoing Requirements after the grant Ends • MOU’s in place • No requirements for staff or expenses • Should build the system

  8. Parental Involvement • Early childhood participation requires parental approval • Mental health participation requires approval from parents • Drug and alcohol screening and program participation requires parental approval

  9. Goal #2 • Identify all early childhood programs in the area • Select participating programs • Develop a MOU • Promote the use of Watch Me Grow; a screening, referral, and parent education system. • Increase access to early childhood programs for typical students
