What Is Elluminate? • Elluminate is powerful and easy-to-use web conferencing software that can be used for the following purposes, among others: • Meetings • Virtual Office Hours • Live Instruction • Asynchronous Content Development • Tutoring Programs • Classroom Collaboration • Student/Parent Orientation • Remote Guest Speakers/Virtual Field Trips • Professional Development • Virtual Help Desk
Elluminate Tools • Live voice through computer headset and mic (no need for a phone) • Live typed chat • Whiteboard • Voting and survey tools • Desktop sharing
Elluminate sessions can be recorded and saved on Elluminate’s servers, and the saved sessions can be viewed by anyone who has the links.
How to Get an Account • Every college has an Elluminate administrator—most likely the eLearning director. • It’s free for unlimited use. • Please take the free online moderator trainings before you ask for an account. • Part 1: Getting Started With Elluminate Live! The live online training is the only way-- • to really experience the power of the tool. • to really learn how to use the tool. • to practice so that sessions in Elluminate go smoothly. • to see if computers and headsets are set up properly.

How to Use a Virtual Office • Once you have taken the training, ask your local administrator for an account. • Use that account to create your own room • Any time you want to meet with one person or one hundred, just send them the URL to your room • Log into your room and start the meeting • You can record sessions if you like or plan them ahead of time
