“Elizabeth, my love, you must supply my place to my younger children. Alas! I regret that I am taken from you; and, happy and beloved as I have been, is it not hard to quit it all? But these are not thoughts befitting me; I will endeavor to resign myself cheerfully to death and will indulge a hope of meeting you in another world.”(pg.28) This conflict is a person on person conflict. Elizabeth is expecting to get married to Victor, but the fact that he is going away changes the direction of the plot and setting.
“From this day natural philosophy, and particularly chemistry, in the most comprehensive sense of the term, became nearly my sole occupation.”(pg.36) This is a external conflict between victor and his family. Victor is doing this knowing that he is leaving his home and loved ones, which causes his attitude to change. Thinking guy
“I had worked hard for nearly two years, for the sole purpose of infusing life into an inanimate body. For this I had deprived myself of rest and health. I had desired it with an ardor that far exceeded moderation; but now that I had finished, the beauty of the dream vanished, and breathless horror and disgust filled my heart.”(pg.43) This is and internal conflict. Victor is upset and horrified because all of that work and studying toward a dream that he wanted so bad ended up leading him to creating something extremely horrifying. Which, pretty much crushed his dreams. A scared little kid
“She busied herself with following the aerial creations of the poets; and in the majestic and wondrous scenes which surrounded our Swiss home—the sublime shapes of the mountains, the changes of the seasons, tempest and calm, he silence of winter, and the life and turbulence of our alpine summers– she found ample scope for admiration and delight.(pg.22) In this quote the character Elizabeth is describing her fantasy home that she wants to live in after she is married. She describes her place to be silent and you can tell that she wants it to be perfect. Snowy mountains
I remained two days at Lausanne in this painful sate of mind. I contemplated the lake; the waters were placid, all around was calm, and the snowy mountains. By degrees the calm and heavenly scene restored me.(pg.61) This stop that he has on the way back home has helped victor to become more at ease. I think that he is liking the beautiful scenery. Beautiful landscape
During this voyage I saw the lightning playing on the summit of Mont Blanc in the most beautiful figures. it was echoed from Saleve, the Juras, and the Alps of Savoy; vivid flashes of lightning dazzled my eyes; illuminating the lake, making it appear like a vast sheet of fire. Victor is saying how beautiful the summit of the mountain look it from a creepy point of view. lightning
