  2. Today… • While I am out today, you are going to be reading an incredibly weird story. • Please follow EACH set of directions carefully. I am very much looking forward to discussing this with you tomorrow, AND I will be checking your files while I am out today (yup, I am always watching!). • Please be on your most fabulous behavior today, especially since you will need to work at your own pace AND be responsible for following your own directions.

  3. Directions for “Ponies” BEFORE you read: • Preview the paper copy of the story. • Preview the directions that are included on the article AND on the ½ sheet of paper from the substitute. WHILE you read: • Pause when you see the stop signs. • Finish the sentence starter when you are guided.

  4. AFTER you read: • Place your ½ sheet in the hand in basket for your hour. • Add an entry to your Tri 1 Google Doc. Today’s date is Thurs, 11/14.

  5. Question #1: Theme Directions: There are many themes in this story. Read each theme carefully. TYPE the 3 best themes for this story (yes, please type it out all the way) • Getting what you want can come with a cost. • The world can be filled with kindness. • Nature should not be tampered with. • Things don’t always turn out like you wish them to. • Blending in with others is important and makes for an easier life. • Blending in with others is not worth changing who you are.

Are there things you change about yourself to be more like the in crowd? • What is it about you that sets you apart or makes you an individual? Do you like those things about yourself? Do you wish you could change them? • Teachers, adults, parents, etc., always how try to tell you the best ways to deal with bullies. What do YOU think is the best way to deal with people who are cruel? Why do you think this is so?
