expect to see your doctor… • About once each month during your first six months of pregnancy • Every two weeks during the seventh and eighth month of pregnancy • Weekly in the ninth month of pregnancy
Do’s and don’ts…. • Take vitamins with folic acid daily • Avoid alcohol, drugs, and tobacco • Wash hands often to avoid the spread of illnesses • See your health care professional regularly • Ask about avoiding any substances at work or at home that might be harmful to a developing baby. • Eat a healthy, balanced diet. • Avoid unpasteurized (raw) milk and foods made from it. • Avoid eating raw or undercooked meat
Eating for two? • Even though there is a baby to nourish, a woman should NOT double her calorie intake while pregnant. • Most Pregnant women only need about 300 extra calories per day.
