Housing Patterns in LEDCs There is as wide a range of quality of housing as in the UK A smaller proportion of people live in high quality homes A greater proportion are either homeless or sleep on the street or live in squatter settlements The squatter settlements sprawl over the city – usually following the main roads

  3. Housing Patterns in Rio De Janiero Poor houses in LEDCs are known as favelas, shanty towns or slums. They are unplanned, built on land people do not own – the houses are made of scrap metal and materials freely found. There is often no electricity or water. Watch the following film about housing in Rio De Janeiro. Make notes on the sheet as to how access to housing varies in the city.
