  1. Proposed Revisions to NSF 61 Section 5 December 3, 2009

  2. NSF 61 Section 5 Covers tank and pipe coatings for: Field Applied Factory Applied

  3. Coating Requirements • Pipe and Fittings Sec 4 (17 day exposure) • Field applied Immediate return to service pipe coatings Sec 5 (1 day) • Other pipe and tank coatings Sec 5 (5 day) • Pipes with factory applied coatings are tested to 17 day exposure. • Coatings that are intended for application to pipe in the factory are tested to 5 day protocol. • Factory applied pipe only coatings should be tested to 17 day protocol.

  4. NSF 61 Section 5 • Additional minor editorial revisions are also suggested. • Replace “or” with “and” in definition of immediate return to service coatings.

  5. NSF 61 Section 5 • Allow use of the disinfection methods cited in AWWA C651 for disinfection of pipe coatings in Section 5.5.4.

  6. NSF 61 Section 5 • Section 5.5.5.4 should be revised to reference the conditioning and exposure protocols for pipe only coatings.

  7. NSF 61 Section 5 • Section 5.8.1 contains outdated references to the MALs. This should be revised to reference TACs and SPACs for flowing/static conditions.

  8. NSF 61 Section 5 • Table 5.7 has been proposed for listing surface area to volume ratios for pipe based on nominal diameter for convenience in applying normalization criteria.
