  9. GOD WILL OFTEN SAY NO TO YOU BECAUSE HE HAS A DEEPER YES… FOR YOUR LIFE

  10. 2 Sam 7:1-5After the king was settled in his palace and the Lord had given him rest from all his enemies around him, 2 he said to Nathan the prophet, “Here I am, living in a house of cedar, while the ark of God remains in a tent.”3 Nathan replied to the king, “Whatever you have in mind, go ahead and do it, for the Lord is with you.”4 But that night the word of the Lord came to Nathan, saying:5 “Go and tell my servant David, ‘This is what the Lord says: Are you the one to build me a house to dwell in?

  11. A) Sometimes no is because of sin or disobedience in our life

  12. Psalm 66:18 18 If I had cherished sin in my heart, the Lord would not have listened;

  13. Joshua 7:6-126 Then Joshua tore his clothes and fell facedown to the ground before the ark of the Lord, remaining there till evening. The elders of Israel did the same, and sprinkled dust on their heads. 7 And Joshua said, “Alas, Sovereign Lord, why did you ever bring this people across the Jordan to deliver us into the hands of the Amorites to destroy us? If only we had been content to stay on the other side of the Jordan! 8 Pardon your servant, Lord. What can I say, now that Israel has been routed by its enemies?

  14. 9 The Canaanites and the other people of the country will hear about this and they will surround us and wipe out our name from the earth. What then will you do for your own great name?” 10 The Lord said to Joshua, “Stand up! What are you doing down on your face? 11 Israel has sinned; they have violated my covenant, which I commanded them to keep. They have taken some of the devoted things; they have stolen, they have lied, they have put them with their own possessions. 12 That is why the Israelites cannot stand against their enemies; they turn their backs and run because they have been made liable to destruction. I will not be with you anymore unless you destroy whatever among you is devoted to destruction.

  15. B) Sometimes no is not an absolute no...but rather a wait

  16. John 11:4-64 When he heard this, Jesus said, “This sickness will not end in death. No, it is for God’s glory so that God’s Son may be glorified through it.” 5 Now Jesus loved Martha and her sister and Lazarus. 6 So when he heard that Lazarus was sick, he stayed where he was two more days,

  17. C) Persistent lack of faith or unbelief will produce a no

  18. Mark 6:3-63 Isn’t this the carpenter? Isn’t this Mary’s son and the brother of James, Joseph, Judas and Simon? Aren’t his sisters here with us?” And they took offense at him. 4 Jesus said to them, “A prophet is not without honor except in his own town, among his relatives and in his own home.” 5 He could not do any miracles there, except lay his hands on a few sick people and heal them. 6 He was amazed at their lack of faith.

  19. Heb11:66 And without faith it is impossible to please God, because anyone who comes to him must believe that he exists and that he rewards those who earnestly seek him.

  20. D) A yes may mean greater harm

  21. Isaiah 38:1-3In those days Hezekiah became ill and was at the point of death. The prophet Isaiah son of Amozwent to him and said, “This is what the Lord says: Put your house in order, because you are going to die; you will not recover.” 2 Hezekiah turned his face to the wall and prayed to the Lord, 3 “Remember, Lord, how I have walked before you faithfully and with wholehearted devotion and have done what is good in your eyes.” And Hezekiah wept bitterly.

  22. E) God's no is for our perfection/maturity

  23. 2 Cor12:7-107 or because of these surpassingly great revelations. Therefore, in order to keep me from becoming conceited, I was given a thorn in my flesh, a messenger of Satan, to torment me.

  24. F) God's no means a greater YES

  25. 2 Sam 7:10-1310 And I will provide a place for my people Israel and will plant them so that they can have a home of their own and no longer be disturbed. Wicked people will not oppress them anymore, as they did at the beginning 11 and have done ever since the time I appointed leaders over my people Israel. I will also give you rest from all your enemies.

  26. “ ‘The Lord declares to you that the Lord himself will establish a house for you: 12 When your days are over and you rest with your ancestors, I will raise up your offspring to succeed you, your own flesh and blood, and I will establish his kingdom. 13 He is the one who will build a house for my Name, and I will establish the throne of his kingdom forever.

  27. Matt 26:3939 Going a little farther, he fell with his face to the ground and prayed, “My Father, if it is possible, may this cupr be taken from me. Yet not as I will, but as you will.”

  28. G) Rejoicing in no

  29. 2 Sam 7:18-2218 Then King David went in and sat before the Lord, and he said: “Who am I, Sovereign Lord, and what is my family, that you have brought me this far? 19 And as if this were not enough in your sight, Sovereign Lord, you have also spoken about the future of the house of your servant—and this decree, Sovereign Lord, is for a mere human! 20“What more can David say to you? For you know your servant,Sovereign Lord. 21 For the sake of your word and according to your will, you have done this great thing and made it known to your servant. 22“How great you are, Sovereign Lord! There is no one like you, and there is no God but you, as we have heard with our own ears.

  30. Romans 8:2828 And we know that in all things God works for the good of those who love him, who have been called according to his purpose.

  31. Eph5:2020Always giving thanks to God the Father for everything, in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ.
