  1. Selling Stat • Online technology has empowered the consumer – while increasing the need for a trusted advisor to interpret the data, lay out the facts, and set the record straight… Source: HAR Survey of Home Sellers and Buyers

  2. NAR reaches settlement with U.S Dept of Justice • NAR and the U.S. Department of Justice last week ended more than four years of investigation and litigation regarding how listings from multiple listing services are displayed on brokers’ virtual office Web sites. NAR settled with the DOJ without financial penalty or admission of guilt. • The terms of the proposed final order validate NAR’s position: MLS members must be actively engaged in real estate brokerage by helping people buy or sell homes. This will ensure that MLSs are used to help real estate professionals find buyers for people who want to sell their homes. NAR has also agreed to adopt a revised Virtual Office Web site policy that NAR will request MLSs to adopt.

  3. HAR Reminders • As you know, all real estate licensees in Texas are now required to submit fingerprints with any new or renewal applications. These fingerprints are then run through the state and national databases to ensure the safety of both the consumer and fellow Realtors. You may now check your fingerprint status on TREC’s Web site at www.trec.state.tx.us and click on the Licensee Info link on the left. • Don’t forget that if you are interested in running for the HAR board of directors, applications are due by Monday, June 9 at 5 p.m. Contact rozlynn@har.com with any questions.

  4. Houston Highlights • Houston gained more jobs than any other U.S. Metropolitan Statistical Area (MSA) between April 2007 and April 2008, according to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics. • Houston also had the fastest job growth among the country’s 39 MSAs with more than 1.5 million residents. • The July issue of Kiplinger’s Personal Finance magazine names Houston the “Best City to Live, Work and Play,” highlighting everything from the world-class museums and downtown tunnels to the world’s largest liquor store (Spec’s) and Sugar Land as a great suburban alternative to city living.
