HOME • The first and most important is to decorate the Christmas tree and the house. • Find the perfect spot for your Christmas tree and begin putting it together or if it is a real tree put in the stand and add water. • Next we put on the lights if it isn’t pre lit. • After lights are on we put on our popcorn garland or regular garland. (Later we will learn how to make popcorn garland) • Now you can put the ornaments on and this is my kids favorite part. We have no breakable ornaments but still have wonderful ornaments. • Finally the Christmas topper. We have a star but you can have an angel, ribbon, your last name initial. The choices are endless.
HOME • Popcorn Garland • Gather materials • Measure the string. We like to use a heavier duty string. Cut the string. Tie a knot on the end of the string that your not putting your needle through. • Thread needle and start putting your popcorn on or any other stuff you would like to put on. Make sure your popcorn is stale or it might crumble. We have put beadsand cranberries also with the popcorn to give it a festive look. • Once you are done putting your materials on the string tie off the other end and start hanging the garland on the tree.
HOME • Looking a Christmas lights • We have a favorite place to go that is close to our house. The community coordinates their decorating by blocks. Some of the things they decorate with are candy canes, merry go round horses, and bells. But they also have other decorations. They are also awesome. The community is called Diamond Loch. • There are other places to go such as the Texas Motor Speedway or The Gaylord. But be advised the places cost money.
HOME • Movie Night • Special time for us to get together is watching a Christmas movie such as The Grinch stole Christmas. We like to go all out and have popcorn with hot cocoa in our pajamas with the fire place going. • Also we roast marshmallows when our movie is done and make smores with them.
HOME • Santa Claus • Before we go see Santa at the mall the kids write their letters to Santa to drop off at Macy’s. • Everyone has to see Santa Claus to get your picture taking with him and tell him what you want for Christmas.
HOME • Christmas Cards • We buy our Christmas card kits from Target in the Dollar spot. It comes with five in a pack and has everything in it and it shows you how to make them. The kids love to decorate them because its very simple and easy for a four year old and eight year old to do. • We also find a great family picture to put inside the card and sign our names and send them out the first week of December. • Christmas Craft • Snowflake coffee filters are the best we like to color ours first, then fold them and cut into them.
HOME • Kids Food Crafts • Gingerbread bread houses are fun to make but can be a little messy. The kids get a little upset if the houses fall apart but we still do them each year. • We also do Rice crispy houses or snowmen. They are much easier to make because you don’t really have to assembly them. We put our icing, Gum drops, and M&M’s.
HOME • Cookies • Sugar cookies, Chocolate chip cookies, and peanut butter cookies. • The kids love to make the cookies they get to decorate the sugar cookies and eat the chocolate chip cookie dough. We sometimes put decorations on the chocolate chip cookies just to be different.
HOME • Ice skating at the Parks mall • We go as a family to the Ice skating rink in the mall. We stay as long as the kids want to but usually ends about an hour. Then we go get a nice cup of hot cocoa to warm us back up.
HOME • Holiday music • We have the Christmas station on in the car and have Christmas CDs when decorating or even cleaning the house. • Caroling • We go around our neighborhood with other families and do some caroling. Every year the kids enjoy it more and the neighbors love it.
HOME • Reading Time • Twas the night before Christmas book is the best classic book ever. We read the book every Christmas Eve. My eight year knows all the words to it and reads it faster than I do.
HOME • I hope this inspired you to go out and have some fun this Christmas. Enjoy your Christmas time!!!
