How to use this Kiosk • Here are some simple rules and examples to help you navigate this kiosk and understand all of its functions. • Most of the pictures/text included in this kiosk will act as links to take you to a new page. Simply click on the picture that you would like to follow. • For example: Click the picture of the man with the light bulb. It will take you to the front page. At the bottom of each page you will find several options/buttons. Each one has a different function, there are two different arrows, and a home button. The arrows allow you to move forward and backward from slide to slide, while the home button takes you back to a main menu. When you feel you are finished with the kiosk there will be a button on the main menu page to end the program. End Program Main menu Back Forward

  3. What is Summer Reading? The summer reading program was developed by a small community of libraries to combine their resources to create a cohesive product and presentation to encourage a variety of children, teens and adults to become involved in reading and in their libraries. Currently the Summer reading program works in a variety of libraries nation wide. Consisting of handing out reading journals/logs, offering prizes and awards, and creating special programs based around a common theme.

  7. Children’s programs • June 13th –In the Dreamtime: An Australian Adventure, 3:30pm • Hear tales from down under, make your own boomerang and didgeridoo! June 20th—Magic Pirate Captain Jim, 3:30pm • June 18th—Owl Prowl, 7pm • Meet live owls and learn fun facts! • June 27th Magic Tree House: Colonial Fun • Join us at Caldwell Historic Museum, for stories, crafts, games, & treats. 3:30pm Pictures! • July 11th—Midsummer Nights Dream: A Fantasy Fairy Forest, 3:30pm • Design a dragon mask, make fairy wings, plant a beanstalk, create a fairy lantern, & face painting! July 3rd—Eastern Music Festival, 3:30pm

  8. Movies! • Programs Join Us for Zombie Night! • June 19th –Twilight Gardening, 7pm • Create a garden that comes alive at night! • August 7th –Biomusic, 3pm • Join us as we explore musical mysteries of the natural world. If you dare…

  11. Getting Started at your Library 1. Go to your local library, there should be a station set up at the front desk for the program. If there is not, ask your librarian for help. 2. Sign up for the summer reading program, be sure to grab a Reading journal and to enter your name in the drawing! 3. Read 4. Check in with your library to get news on programs and new contests! Reading Journals

  12. Reading Journals Even just one book counts! Each child is given a reading journal when they sign up. The reading journal is easy! Simply write down the title of each book you read (or have read to you) on the lines provided. Keep track of all the books you read. On the appropriate day bring your journal into your library to get stamped. Get free prizes from your librarian! • There is no minimum number of books! Getting started Contest & Prizes

Prizes! • As soon as a child is signed up there are eligible to receive great prizes! • When they sign up their names will be entered into a drawing to win tickets to one of these amazing places: • The Children’s Museum of Greensboro • The Asheboro Zoo • Wet’n’Wild pool park At the end of the summer there will be a book fair for all of those who participated in Summer reading. The children and teens will be able to search through a selection of books and pick their favorite ones to take home. Not to mention all the cool arts and crafts they will have gained over the summer! Journals
