  4. Key Success Factor 1 The successful history: The Partnership will build upon the three-year success story of the International Task Force on Sustainable Tourism Development:

Membership Benefits for members • Identify innovative and high-impact projects, policies, and best practice. • Implement projects with the support of the Partnership team or/and its members. • Join a results-oriented dynamic network of networks, spanning the public and private sector. • Benefit from adequate information systems, conferences, workshops, publications and promotion of your sustainable tourism activities worldwide. • Interact with policy makers working on a sustainable tourism development.

Ongoingprojectexamples Consumer Campaign • Objective: to raise tourists’ awareness to contribute to sustainable development by making responsible holiday choices. • Green Passport travel guides with “green” tips have been produced in Brazil, Ecuador, Costa Rica, in South Africa for the FIFA World Cup 2010 and soon in Israel. • Campaigns can include additional actions, e.g. capacity building , infrastructure energy efficiency development, policy actions; www.unep.org/greenpassport

Ongoingprojectexamples Hotel Energy Solutions Project • Objective: expand the uptake of Energy Efficiency (EE) and Renewable Energy (RE) technologies in the European accommodation sector. • UNEP is coordinating the development of a toolkit that enables Small and Medium Enterprise (SME) Hotels to assess their current energy use and carbon footprint against similar hotels and provide support in ranking practical and cost-effective EE and RE investment options. (carbon calculator, an energy benchmarking tool, decision support sequence which will provide assistance in evaluating carbon emissions and mitigation techniques through EE and RE investment options). www.hotelenergysolutions.net

Ongoingprojectexamples Sustainable Investment and Finance in Tourism (SIFT) network • SIFT is a knowledge and investment network meant to mainstream sustainability into tourism development investments and financing. • The main outcome of this network will be the establishment of a common and voluntary standard to encourage greater sustainability in tourism investments by public, private and multilateral investors.
