Installation • Software Setup for Windows 98 SE, Me, 2000, and XP • To install the software for the USB Adapter, follow the instructions below: • Note: The installation process for Windows XP may look slightly different from Windows 98 SE, • Me, and 2000. • Note: Do not insert the USB Adapter into the USB port prior to software installation. • 1. Insert the software installation CD-ROM • into the PC’s CD-ROM drive. • 2. The “Software InstallShield Wizard” • window appears. Click on “Next” to begin • the installation process.

  3. Installation 3. Choose “I accept the terms in the license agreement” to accept the license agreement. Click on “Next”. 4. Name your device and select the type of computer you are installing your USB Adapter in. Click on “Next”.

  4. Installation 5. Specify the location where the software and driver will be installed on your hard drive. It is recommended that you install the software and driver to the default directory “C:\Program Files\belkin\Bluetooth Software”. Click on “Next”. 6. Confirm that the device software and driver are ready to be installed and click on “Install”.

  5. Installation • Note: If at any time during the installation process you receive a “Driver Signature Notice”, click “Yes” or “OK” to continue the installation process. 7. Confirm the completion of installation; click “Finish” and then restart the system.

  6. Hardware Installation 1. After installing the software and restarting the system, insert the USB Adapter into an available USB port. You should see your system register a new, USB device found. Click on “Next”. • Note: In some computers, the USB hardware installation • will be automatic and Installation Steps 1–5 will not • be necessary. 2. Choose “Search for a suitable driver for my device”. Click on “Next”. • Note: If you receive a Microsoft Digital Signature Notice, click “Continue” to complete the installation process.

  7. Hardware Installation 3. Select “Specify a Location” and click on “Next”. Browse for the location of the device driver “C:\Program Files\Belkin\Bluetooth Software\bin\”; then click “OK”. 4. Confirm that the device driver was found and click on “Next”.

  8. Installation 5. A window will appear that confirms the completion of the driver installation; click on “Finish”. 6. “My Bluetooth Places” should appear on your desktop. Your installation process is now complete.

  9. B L U E T O O T H C O N F I G U R AT I O N S E T T I N G S • Right-click on the Bluetooth icon on the right-hand side of the task bar of your screen. The “BluetoothConfiguration” window appears to allow you to customize the • configuration settings of “Explore”, “Setup”, “Advanced configuration “ “quick connect” and “start , stop devices” .

  10. Advanced Configuration 2. Click on “Advanced Configuration”. a) The “General” tab allows you to customize the device’s user name, type.

  11. Advanced Configuration b) The “Accessibility” tab allows you to specify which individual devices are allowed to access the user’s computer.

  12. Advanced Configuration c) The “Discovery” tab allows you to specify which individual devices, type of, or class of device the user’s computer isallowed access to.

  13. Advanced Configuration • The “Local Services” tab indicates the services this computer makes available to the other computers.

  14. Advanced Configuration • The “Client Applications” tab indicates the properties of each application.

  15. Advanced Configuration • The “Hardware” tab indicates device information of the user’s hardware.

  16. The “My Bluetooth Places” program provides a quick and easy way to perform different application services through Bluetooth connections.

  17. LAB Activities • Using Bluetooth devices to perform the following services and applications: • File transfer • Network access • Audio gateway • Dial-up networking
