  2. Healthy Vibe! B-Tech afterschool group dedicated to learning and spreading the word about healthy living.

  3. Healthy Vibe Peers(B-Tech Alternative HS) • Trained as peer educators for their school (1x/week mtgs), part of the afterschool programs • Provide nutrition presentations to classes, nutrition-related tabling activities • Desire by staff and students to learn about what’s happening in their environment

  4. Joining forces with Change Youth Advisors Group

  5. Health Smart! Peers(Middle School) • Trained as peer educators for their school (1x/week mtgs), part of the afterschool programs • Provide presentations to classes, tabling activities • Working with nearby store to limit junk food youth purchase • Learning about their community Longfellow MS Garden

  6. “Being healthy is eating right and feeding my body good food, leaving junk food alone.” Seeing what’s in their community:

  7. “Living a long life, staying away from trouble, and drinking healthy drinks.”

  8. “I LOVE my junk food! I don’t think I’ll EVER stop eating it.” (later that evening, as reported by her parent the next day): “I think I eat too much junk…AND I watch too much TV. For a month, I will watch 30 minutes less of TV each week…AND I’ll eat less junk. Can I have an egg for breakfast tomorrow?”

Tools for Fast Food sessions: “Have It Your Way Fast Food” – JUMP START Teens Curriculum (Project LEAN) • Visually see how much fat is in a typical fast food meal • Learn ways to cut fat in their fast food; Fast Food Contract “What’s In Your Bag?” – Alameda County PH Dept, Nutrition Services • Nutrition facts for popular fast food breakfast and lunch • Build a healthier lifestyle, make healthier choices Media-Smart Youth, workshop curriculum for 11-13 yr olds (National Institute of Child Health and Human Development) • 10 sessions, builds media analysis, connections between understanding media and health, nutrition, physical activity, and ways to make healthy choices
