  2. Major Concepts • The SUN is the source of energy that drives all ocean currents. • Currents are formed by the winds or changes in density. • There are 2 kinds of ocean currents: • Surface Currents • Driven by winds • Fast • Deep-water Currents • Driven by density

Major Concepts • The SUN affects the amount of salt in our ocean currents through the water cycle. • When water evaporates, it leaves salt behind. • When it rains, the water washes over rocks and soil that contain salt, and carry the salt to the oceans. • The saltiest oceans/seas are near the equator.
