  12. Elements of Windows 95 TCO Capital 26% End User Operations 43% Training Justification Hidden Technical Support Technical Support 17% Labor : Capital Ratio = 74% Labor : 26% Capital Administration 14%

  13. 1. Peer support continues to be the primary technical-support delivery mechanism, driving hidden costs ever-higher. 2.End-user applications development explodes as visual tools and components emerge. 3. Exciting new opportunities to “futz” emerge (e.g., by using the Internet, color output and multimedia). 4. Increasing business-unit IT funding is spent on new functionality, not infrastructure. 5. Lack of awareness of business-unit TCO continues to mask high end-user labor costs. 6. Decreasing IS funding precludes serious efforts to address end-user labor costs. 7. Slow implementation of JITT exacerbates training inefficiencies. 8. IS’ focus on reducing administrative costs supersedes addressing end-user issues. 9. IS’ focus on its own efficiency will push highly visible IS costs to less-visible user labor. 10.Slow transformation of the IS organization fails to focus resources on EUC issues. Top 10 Reasons Why End-User Operations Costs Will Grow Faster Than All Other TCO Categories(Gartner Group Presentation at Microsoft 2/98)

  14. Just-in-Time Training (JITT) is defined by Gartner Group as “on-demand training that provides a user with specific application training where and when it is needed.” The Gartner Group recommends Just-in-Time Training tools as part of its best practices strategy organizations can employ to reduce TCO by up to 26 percent. JITT tools can reduce three areas of end-user costs: formal training, informal training and trouble shooting. Specific benefits of Just-in-Time Training tools: Self-paced training Information available on demand Lessons apply to real-world problems Reduces/eliminates the time and cost of classroom/learning lab training Saves money in training and support cost Microsoft Press:Just-in-Time Training
