We are not the City we used to be. • Lost 50% of population (vs. 15% of housing stock) • Currently 1,400 condemnations • Currently 6,000 vacant buildings • Currently 14,000 vacant lots • Almost 20% of our parcels are tax delinquent City of Pittsburgh – Department of City Planning City of Pittsburgh – Office of the Mayor City of Pittsburgh – Department of Neighborhood Initiatives City of Pittsburgh – Bureau of Police

  5. The City of Pittsburgh is shrinking • The City of Pittsburgh had 333,527 residents in 2000. This is a 50% percent population loss over five decades since 1950. During the same period, the United States gained 85%. City of Pittsburgh – Department of City Planning

  6. Goal of this Task Force: • Develop a plan to recycle tax delinquent and abandoned properties • Turn them back into revenue-generating land • Stabilize property values • Increase the viability of our neighborhoods City of Pittsburgh – Department of City Planning City of Pittsburgh – Office of the Mayor

  7. We are not starting from scratch. • CARC buyback • Mayor’s Green Up Pittsburgh Program • Increase in City’s demolition budget • Community Land Reform Initiative • Online Permitting • City’s First Comprehensive Plan City of Pittsburgh – Department of City Planning City of Pittsburgh – Office of the Mayor

  8. The key to revitalization is to control these tax delinquent and abandoned properties. Then we can control our destiny. Thank you.
