  5. Impressionism Art • The movement originated in France in the 1860’s. Their main goal was to paint an “impression’ or the initial sensory perceptions recorded by a brief glimpse. Color is not the same or permanent. The artists discovered, it changes according to the effects of light, reflection or weather on a object’s surface.   6. Pointillism • Impressionists placed short brush stokes or dabs of pure color next to one another. When viewed form a distance, the colors seem to bounce off of each other and mix. This effect creates the impression of shapes and many different colors. This is called optical mixing. • See the following artist: • Vincent van Gogh “The Starry Night, 1889” • Claude Monet “Waterlilies, 1904”
