  1. Cumulus Clouds Cumulus [cum•u•lus] The word cumulus is a Latin word which means “heap” or “pile.”

  2. Cumulus Clouds Cumulus Clouds are named for the way that they look in the sky. When you see cumulus clouds, they will be white puffy clouds that are piled up in the sky. Usually they are found in the lower or middle part of the atmosphere on a nice day. They might remind you of a cotton ball floating in the sky. These clouds are good for cloud watching . . . if you use your imagination they may turn into interesting shapes. Stratus clouds usually mean that the weather will be nice. Remember: The word cumulus means “heap” or “pile.”
