Miscellaneous • Sign sheet for email address (will do a lot of communication: Test alerts, quizzes, trips, behavior, success stories, etc.) • Please refer to class syllabus for information pertaining to the class materials • Please check in to grade book periodically
A Little About Me • Graduated from Haverford High School • Graduated from Shippensburg University • Taught in the Philadelphia School District (7th and 8th grade LA and SS) • Spent one year working at a learning processes center for students with disabilities • Coached Little League Football, High School Football • 15 year old son, Riley, who started 10thgrade this year. • Taught at Coebourn (4th) and Aston (3rd)
Classroom and School Rules: Viking Vision • Be Respectful! • Be Responsible! • Be Ready! • We will be issuing the Viking Visa bookmarks as a behavior rewards system. Used it last year successfully.
What’s new this year?!?!? • E-School Parent Portal • It is your responsibility to stay informed • This system will give you the latest up to date information on your student’s progress. • Bear with us, we are new to this system too! • New behavior, tiered, system • See handbook for information
HOMEWORK • Homework is given nightly except Friday (unless special project or child forgotten an assignment). • Given regularly when appropriatee to reinforce what is done in school. • Due in its entirety the next day (or by due date). • Must be done neatly. • Missed, incomplete or late assignments will result in less practice and learning time for your child. • Please check assignment book nightly. This is the most effective way to ensure assignments are being completed. • CHECK E-SCHOOL regularly to keep up to date on your student’s progress. Stay informed.
Tests and assessments-Teacher Given Tests • Given periodically to assess student comprehension of material taught in class. • Social Studies-Tests given periodically during marking period as well as quizzes and other assessments • Tests will be kept in class in student portfolios and will be sent home at parent’s request. • If sent home, must be signed and returned by the next day.

A Little About the Technology • Google accounts and Google docs • We will share ideas, activities, and other assignments • My Big Campus • Notes, activities, and other assignments • I will post all my notes from class and activities. Very important part of this course. • Go to pdsd.org and click on Information (students know their login and passwords already) • www.pdsd.org • My.hrw.com – students have been assigned a password and username. • This will be used as the online textbook • Any student without access to the internet will be given a home textbook • my.hrw.com • DO NOT PUT www. IN FRONT • Must be used with a PC or lap top. I-pad and I-software is not compatible.
EXPECTATIONS • Students are accountable for their actions • Sports, activities, and extracurricular are not excuses for incomplete homework • Respect for each other in and out of school • Not knowing something is not an excuse for not trying something (There is a difference) • Work Hard • Try Hard • Accept that it is OK to make mistakes
