  28. COST ESTIMATE Approximately 5,270 ft2 Average cost of $ 184 / ft2 ROM cost $ 970,000

  29. COST ESTIMATE • Potential high labor of strawbale will be minimized with use of educational workshop to provide labor • Workshops will be held “at cost” to cover feeding and housing expenses • Slower labor time offset by publicity and community enrichment

  30. SAFETY PLAN Fire Protection: • All bale treated with borate solution • Site swept hourly when loose straw present • Separate “tool site” where all grinding and spark potential tooling will be done • Predip method

  31. SAFETY PLAN Pre-dip Method: • Wall surfaces of bale dipped in clay slurry - Penetrates 3 inches - Seals bale from fire and rain • Eliminates weed-wacking of wall - Save labor - Reduces fire risk of loose straw

  32. SAFETY PLAN Falling Protection: • Strawbale “crash pads” built up as scaffolding goes higher • After construction this straw will be mulched on site

  33. QUALITY CONTROL Full-time CM will co-ordinate workshops and subcontractors to facilitate proper quality control. Awareness of unique codes and strawbale detailing is critical
