  2. Textual Features • The textual features in a passage help you find information quickly. • Passages often have a topic sentence at the beginning that tells what the passage is about and a concluding sentence at the end that sums up what was presented.

  3. Read the passage and answer the questions. (1) Washing your hands helps to keep you from getting sick. (2) Your hands pick up germs when you touch things. (3) Most germs can be washed away with soap and water. (4) Make sure you scrub your hands for at least 30 seconds. (5) Wash your hands often to keep healthy. • Which sentence tells what the paragraph is about? Sentence ____ is the topic sentence. • Which sentence sums up the paragraph?
