  3. Overview • Purpose: To inform with the use of visual aids. Your goal is to enhance audience learning about a social justice issue. • Time Limit: 6-8 Minutes. 1-point penalty per 30 seconds over/under • 5 credible sources, 1 must be scholarly source • Verbally cite in speech • & write in outline

  4. Topic • Consider the following questions when considering your topic: • Does it interest you? • Could it interest and have value for your audience? • Can you find credible research material? • Can you use visual aids with your topic? • This should not be persuasive. Give us an informed, unbiased perspective.

  5. Potential Topics

  6. Organization • Introduction • Attention-getter, Justification/Connection w/ audience, Thesis, Central idea • 1 citation in introduction • Transitional sentences • Body • Examples, statistics, testimonies • Cite 5 sources verbally • Conclusion

  7. Organization Cntd. • Be creative when planning an attention getting opening and a closing with impact • Select 3-4 main points • Choose organizational strategy and be consistent • Use transitions, signposts, internal previews, &/or internal summaries

  8. Delivery • Practice at home for the following: • Eye contact • Articulation • Proper gestures/body movement • Extemporaneous • Connection with audience • Not saying um (or uh, you know, like, etc.) • Incorporating visual aid

  9. Items Due • Outline & References-Due day of speech • Use outline guide from course packet for reference • Needs to be typed, double-space, 12-point font • APA format • Note cards-Due day of speech • Visual aid-Due day of speech • Electronic aid needs to be printed out & turned in • Will take pictures of models/objects • If using hand outs: Make 26 copies
