Activity 1 What are your objectives for today ??? Write three needs (Take three minutes) 2
Objectives Lead ITT team in school : • Explore the role of PCM with SWELTEC • Develop confidence in managing the role • Establish school ITT policy, and QA procedures • Understand SWELTEC documentation and procedures • Know the SWELTEC support systems • Achieve recognition for mentor skills through SWELTEC Certification 3
Activity 2 (Write briefly on post-it note – Discuss with neighbours) (Take five minutes) Who am I? • Experience you have in mentoring • Three qualities that make you a good mentor • Experience of whole school issues • Two examples of your management skills • Two examples of your inter-personal skills 4
In an ideal world PCMs : • are knowledgeable, and experienced in adult development, mentoring and coaching. • are experienced as mentors in ITT, with superior observation skills, able to feedback with maximum positive effect. • are certificated with SWELTEC at stage 2. • have a clearly defined role with adequate time allocation. • are supported by the leadership team with ITT as an identified aspect of school policy, included in SEF. 5
Aspects to ESTABLISH School has : • a successful PCM • trained mentors – certificated with evidence useful for CPD recognition • weekly Training Meetings and lesson observations, with QTS Standards focus • individual Training Plans & Programmes for Students • effective QA procedures – monitoring; evaluation; improvement 6

PCM Time Line Summer – (preparation for next cohort) Check School ITT Policy and Improvement Plan – to include • Principles for Mentor time • Protocol for HEI tutor visits • The Nurturing Staffroom – providing an ethos to support ITT Tasks to complete: • Check Mentor training and Certification • Consider paired placements • Negotiate placements with SWELTEC and mentors for next year • Attend SWELTEC Conference • Organise mentor training and issue Certification training documents to mentors at Stage 1 and Stage 2 as appropriate • Establish Mentor as the School-based Trainer • Establish Management of all training in each Department (RB p 53) • Plan delivery of School-based Training programme for the year (Red Book p 68-70) 10
