Article Summary • Naval Reserve Officers Training Corps (NROTC) to be established at ASU for fall 2010 • ASU is already home to Army and Air Force ROTC programs • 4 year NROTC scholarships features full tuition, educational fees, stipends for textbooks & uniforms, and a subsistence allowance • Other NROTC host units in the southwest are located at University of Arizona and University of New Mexico

Commentary • Hosting an NROTC program at ASU benefits students, the University, and the Navy • NROTC students pursue majors in humanities, languages, computing and informatics, science & engineering • A technical degree is “strongly encouraged”, but not necessary • Positive news exposure not nearly enough to divert attention away from the President Obama honorary degree controversy
