  1. Constructivist Theory What? – Learning is constructed on what the student already knows e.g. knows about MS Access Basics introduce student to advanced relational database concepts • PRO’s • Student Centred • Encourages Student Interaction • Early application of knowledge gained • Co-operative Learning (Groups) • Encourage High Order Thinking • Practice what you preach (e.g. teachers are taught PBL which enables them to teach PBL effectively in classrooms.) • Works with any age group • CON’s • Initial increased workload for the teacher • Old school teachers may not find it easy to adapt to a new way of teaching • Education bosses dictate what should be learnt. • More thought needs to go into lesson planning e.g. care in asking the right questions to promote the required response.

  2. Designing a 5 E Learning Cycle for a Stage 6 Project • What is the 5 E Learning Cycle? Source: Coe, M. D. (2001). The 5 E Learning Cycle Model. http://faculty.mwsu.edu/west/maryann.coe/coe/inquire/inquiry.htm

  3. Curriculum Development Process IPT Project • The Big Question • How can information systems improve our lives? • Unit Question • How do we use information systems and databases to centralise data to produce useful information?

E.g.: telephone directory.

  6. IPT Activities: • Research Activity • Students divided into five groups to conduct research on the nature of information processes • Question & Answer Activity • Students to formulate questions on the nature of information processes with the view of interviewing the IT Manager. • Role play Activity • Students to define roles • Interviewers • IT Manager • Cameraman • and perform a role play as reporters interviewing an IT Manager. Task 2:Video a Mock Interview with an IT Manager Description:Students to conduct a role play exercise where they interview an IT Manager on the nature of information processes. • Using the 5 E Model this activity uses: • Engage

  7. Curriculum Development Process SDD Project • The Big Question • How has software emerged as beneficial tool for businesses? • Unit Question • What are the advantages & disadvantages of developing custom software?
