  2. Out With the Old: CPT® 2017 Deletes These Codes … DELETING... Percutaneous Transluminal balloon angioplasty Open 35450 Renal or other visceral artery 35471 35452 Aortic 35472 35458 Brachiocephalic trunk or branches, each vessel 35475 35460 Venous 35476 Don’t forget about the deletion of the associated supervision and interpretation (S&I) codes, too: • 75962-+75964 for peripheral artery angioplasty S&I • 75966-75968 for renal or other visceral artery angioplasty S&I • 75978 for venous angioplasty S&I.

In With the New: CPT® 2017 Adds These Codes ARTERIES • Initial: 37246, Transluminal balloon angioplasty (except lower extremity artery[ies] for occlusive disease, intracranial, coronary, pulmonary, or dialysis circuit), open or percutaneous, including all imaging and radiological supervision and interpretation necessary to perform the angioplasty within the same artery; initial artery • Additional: +37247, … each additional artery (List separately in addition to code for primary procedure)

In With the New: CPT® 2017 Adds These Codes VEINS • Initial: 37248, Transluminal balloon angioplasty (except dialysis circuit), open or percutaneous, including all imaging and radiological supervision and interpretation necessary to perform the angioplasty within the same vein; initial vein • Additional: +37249, … each additional vein (List separately in addition to code for primary procedure)

ARTERIES DO NOT use artery codes 37246 and +37247 for these angioplasty services: • Lower extremity artery for occlusive disease • Intracranial • Coronary • Pulmonary • Dialysis circuit VEINS DO NOT use vein codes 37248 and +37249 for these angioplasty services: • Dialysis circuit

VEINS DO use vein codes 37248 and +37249 for these angioplasty services (based on the AMA CPT® Index’s “Angioplasty” entry): • Venous • Visceral • Renal • Tibial/Peroneal, Balloon VEINS ARTERIES DO use artery codes 37246 and +37247 for these angioplasty services (based on the AMA CPT® Index’s “Angioplasty” entry): ! • Aorta • Axillary • Brachiocephalic • Renal • Subclavian • Visceral CAUTION The Index also lists the codes under “Angioplasty Tibial/Peroneal, Balloon,” but watch for when occlusive disease treatment codes from 3722x are more appropriate.
