  1. the haka

  2. what is the haka War haka (peruperu) were originally performed by warriors before a battle, proclaiming their strength and prowess in order to intimidate the opposition. Today, haka constitute an integral part of formal or official welcome ceremonies for distinguished visitors or foreign dignitaries, serving to impart a sense of the importance of the occasion Although the use of haka by the All Blacks rugby union team and the kiwis rugby league team has made one type of haka familiar, it has led to misconceptions. Haka are not exclusively war dances but were traditionally performed by men. In modern times, various haka have been composed to be performed by women and even children. Haka are performed for various reasons: for amusement, as a hearty welcome to distinguished guests, or to acknowledge great achievements, occasions or funerals.

  3. How to do the haka 1 You need some people. The Haka is generally done in a large group. More people make the dance seem more impressive, but fewer might be easier if you want the movements to appear more synchronized. Three people is a possible minimum 2 Pick out a leader. The Haka is done with a group of people responding to the commands of one person yelling while either standing in place or walking through the group. The leader usually speaks in Maori language, but you might also want to translate the Maori words into the language of your audience. 3 Treat it seriously. The Haka refers to any traditional dance of the Maori people, the indigenous people of Aotearoa New Zealand. Many of the moves have ritual significance attached. Be aware of these traditions, and of what might be viewed by Maori people as making a mockery of them. You may want to at least correspond with someone who is familiar with the Haka, and possibly even take lessons, before you try it yourself.

  4. 4 There are many variations of the Haka. Check YouTube for the words, hands, and body movements used, or if people are performing the dance in your area, try to make arrangements to see them. Practice it! When you know what you want to do, write it down and try doing it with your friends. Remember that the more you practice the better you'll get 6 Show off your skills! When you and your friends know how to do it well enough, perform it. When done right the Haka can be very impressive! THAT’S ALL YOU NEED TO KNOW ABOUT THE HAKA AND THANK YOU VERY MUCH FOR READING
