Testing Dates BAT #1 BAT #1: September 23-27 (30th for Elementary), 2013 September 26th is not a testing day • Grades 3-10, and EOC enrolled students Student Assessment and Research packed the materials for BAT 1 for all schools. While you are not required to participate in BAT 1, we do encourage you to participate. We hope to provide the results from BAT 1 in a timely manner (2 weeks) and give schools 10 weeks of instruction and intervention time between BAT 1 and BAT 2

  3. Testing Dates BAT #2 BAT #2: January 13 – January 17, 2014 Grades 3-10, and EOC enrolled students at all non-charter schools 3

Test Information • BAT #1- all schools are encouraged to participate. • BAT #2- all non-charter and select charter schools • Multiple choice questions only • Reading, Mathematics/Algebra/Geometry and Science/Biology, Civics and US History for BAT 2 • 1-page answer sheet for Reading & Math/Algebra /Geometry and 1-page answer sheet for Science/Biology and 1-page answer sheet for History/Civics

  5. Test Information Cont’d Session lengths are a standard 70 minutes per session Separate Manuals for each school level (middle, elementary and high) Rulers are to be used on grades 3 & 4 math test 5

All Students at Selected Schools Participate in BAT Participation: • In 2013-14 all grade 3-5 students will participate in a comprehensive Math BAT. • Most 6-8 grade students will take a comprehensive Math BAT. However, those students enrolled in Algebra, Geometry or Biology in grades 6-8 will take either Algebra, Geometry or Biology instead of a comprehensive Math or Science BAT. • Algebra/Geometry/Biology/US History/Civics are enrollment based. If a MS or HS student (6-12) is enrolled in one of the classes on page 2 of the BAT manual, they take the corresponding BAT EOC assessment. • All 3-10 students will participate in a comprehensive Reading BAT. • All grade 5 students and most grade 8 students will participate in a comprehensive Science BAT (exception biology at MS). • Exceptions: If a student normally does not take the FCAT (i.e. ESE) or is a Retake student, school staff may exempt them from testing.

Administration ScheduleMiddle Grades 6, 7 & 8 - Session Lengths 70 minutes: Day 1 – Math or Algebra or Geometry Sessions 1 & 2 * Day 2 – Reading Session 1 Day 3 – Reading Session 2 Day 4 - Science or Biology Session 1 & 2 Day 5 – Civics Sessions 1 & 2 (BAT 2 only) *MS students (6-8) enrolled Algebra, Geometry or Biology will take that assessment instead of a comprehensive Math assessment. 8

Administration ScheduleHigh Grades 9 -12 - Session Length 70 minutes: Day 1 – Reading Session 1 Day 2 – Reading Session 2 Day 3 – Math or Algebra or Geometry Sessions 1 & 2 ** Day 4 - Biology Session 1 & 2 † Day 5 – United States History Sessions 1 & 2 (BAT 2 only) **HS students (9-12) enrolled Algebra or Geometry will take that assessment on Day 3 of the BAT assessment window. † HS students (9-12) enrolled in Biology will take that assessment on Day 4 of the window. There are no comprehensive Math or Science assessments in HS. 9

  10. Make-Up Procedures • All testing must be completed within the administration window • Make-up sessions are not required • Students who participate in only one session of a subject area will NOT receive a score

Test Materials- Reading & Math • Reading Test Book • Mathematics Test Book or Algebra Test Book or Geometry Test Book • 1-Page Reading and Math Answer Sheet • Reading section is in PURPLE and Math section in GREEN • Students participating in the Algebra or Geometry test must have that test type marked on the front of the answer document (preid) or in the corresponding bubble gridded in the Math section (hand grid). • Calculators: Grades 7 & 8 and EOC (Geo=Scientific) • Mathematics Reference Sheets: Grades 5-10

Answer Sheets • All students record their answers on a separate 1-page answer sheet • Make sure that the correct answer sheet is being used (Science/Biology vs. Reading & Math/Algebra/Geometry vs. Civics/U.S. History) • Students must write their names on the answer document • Preprinted with student identification information • If preidentified information is CORRECT, do NOT grid student information. • If information is MISSING from preidentified answer sheet, you may grid the missing information. • If information is INCORRECT, do NOT use; hand-grid a blank answer sheet.

Test Invalidation Grid option “F” on item 100 of the test section that will be invalidated if there is an occurrence of... • Cheating or disruptive behavior • Illness during testing • Incorrect time • Participation in only one session within a subject area • Filling in answers on a section other than the current one. • Possession of an Electronic Device

Test Security • Do Not • Read, reveal, or copy test items • Interpret or read items to students • Change or interfere with student responses • Leave materials unsecured • Do • Follow security procedures and test administration directions • Walk around the room while administering the test • Collect materials daily • Count materials each time they change hands

  20. Test Administrator Responsibilities Before Testing • Read manual and participate in training • Prepare the room for testing • Assemble materials needed for testing. Make sure these materials correspond to the test being taken. • Receive test books and answer sheets • Check preidentified answer sheets • Make sure that students have the correct materials for the test they are taking (reference sheets, calculators, rulers etc.)

Test Administrator Responsibilities During Testing • Distribute materials appropriately • Read scripts VERBATIM • Use #2 Pencil ONLY • Keep time • Maintain test security • Supervise test administration • Address the class as a whole • Ensure that students do not get too much or too little time • Ensure that students are not working ahead into session 2, during session 1

Test Administrator Responsibilities After Testing • Ask students to erase stray marks on their answer sheets • Collect test materials • Separate TO BE SCORED from NOT TO BE SCORED materials • Return materials to the school testing coordinator • Notify the school testing coordinator IMMEDIATELY of any missing materials

School Coordinator Responsibilities Before Testing • Receive and inventory test materials • Complete the enclosed Packing List and fax to Student Assessment & Research at (754) 321-4291 • Write to: assessment.materials@browardschools.com for supplemental materials • Train Test Administrators • Arrange for implementation of accommodations • Provide necessary materials to Test Administrators

  25. School Coordinator Responsibilities During Testing • Supervise test administration • Maintain test security After Testing • Collect materials, redistribute (from one day to the next), and verify return of all secure materials • Prepare materials for return

Material Return: PREPARING TO BE SCORED ANSWER SHEETS • Check student information • Separate the Reading & Math (Algebra or Geometry is considered a R & M answer sheet) answer sheets from the Science/Biology answer sheets and the US History/Civics answer sheets. • Make sure students who took the Algebra or Geometry BAT have that test type marked on the front of the answer sheet or the Algebra or Geometry bubble gridded (hand grid) • NO post-its, paper bands, paper clips, rubber bands, dividing papers, or other materials • No header sheet or count forms • Make sure that Invalidated answer sheet section(s) have answer “F” of item 100 gridded.

Packaging Answer Sheets • Place Reading & Math hand-gridded answer sheets on top of Reading & Math pre-gridded answer sheets and Science hand-griddedanswer sheets on top of the Science pre-gridded answer sheets and History/Civics hand-griddedanswer sheets on top of the History/Civics pre-gridded answer sheets. • IT IS EXTREMELY IMPORTANT THAT ALL ANSWER SHEETS FACE THE SAME DIRECTION!!!! • Place the Reading & Math answer sheets in a box and affix a RED “to be scored” return label on it. • Place the Science answer sheets in a box and affix a NEON PINK “to be scored” return label on it. • Place the Civics/U.S. History answer sheets in a box and affix a WHITE “to be scored” return label on it

  28. Material Return BAT #1PICK-UP OF TO BE SCORED ANSWER SHEETS: Reading & Math & Science- All Schools • All “To Be Scored” materials should be returned immediately after the close of testing Pickup times will be communicated via email to the designated School Test Coordinator

Material Return BAT #2Pick Up OR Hand Delivery Of To-Be Scored BAT Answer Sheets: Reading & Math, Science and Civics/U.S. History- All “To Be Scored” materials should be returned immediately after the close of testing Charter Schools will hand deliver BAT materials to Student Assessment & Research Pickup and hand delivery instructions will be communicated via email to the designated School Test Coordinator

Material Return • NOT TO BE SCORED Materials • Test Books: • Picked up or hand delivered after BAT testing • Separate each type of test book (reading, math, algebra, geometry, biology & science) • Pack in boxes and seal • Affix YELLOW “not to be scored” return labels, note subject area, and number the boxes • NOT TO BE SCORED return instructions will be communicated via email to the Testing Coordinator • Destroy unused, preidentified answer sheets • Pony unused, blank answer sheets to Student Assessment & School Performance • Retain manuals and reference sheets until all BAT administrations for this school year are complete, then discard
