  3. Weapons Anything used or intended for use in a) causing death or injury b) threatening or intimidating a person

  4. Firearms Prohibited firearms (illegal) • Gun silencers, automatic firearms, sawed off shotguns and rifles, etc • What about prohibited weapons? Restricted firearms (must be registered) • Hand guns not prohibited, semi-automatic with length of 470mm and less, telescopic or folding firearms

  5. Non-restricted firearms • Ordinary rifles and shotguns • Don’t require registration (soon) PAL (Possession and Acquisition License) required for firearm registration • Must be 18, lasts five years • Age 12-17 need parent consent and supervision

  6. Firearms offences • Min 1 yr for using a firearm during indictable offence – max 14 years • 2nd offence min 3 yrs • Some offences 4 yr min (attempted murder, manslaughter, sexual assault, etc) • Some 5 yrs – criminal organization
