  1. The Perch Fish Jaelyn, Dayzhane, Milie, & Trayvonta.

  2. Classification • Domain-Eukarya (have a nucleus) • Kingdom-Animalia (euk, multicelluar,hetero) • Phylum-Chordata (has a vertebrae) • Class-Osteichthyes (has a skeleton of bone) • Order-Perciformes • Genus-Perca • Species-Perca

  3. How do they get around? • Oval shaped bodies, helps them swim faster • Many paired fins, have a big role in the perch movement • Air bladder keeps them from sinking

  4. Their nervous system • It DOES have a brain, spinal cord, and nerves. • The brain is a enlargement of the spinal cord which has soft tissue. • Utilizes lateral line system to sense vibration

  5. Reproduction (The baby Makin’ part !) • The perch deposits eggs in the during the “spawning” or, baby makin’ seasons. • Perch reach sexual maturity in 2-3 years for males and 3-4 years for females. • Males attend to the females on heat and fertilize the eggs. • After fertilization the eggs can hatch within 6 days.

  6. Habitat • Live in a variety of aquatic habitats, including warm or cool lakes, ponds and sluggish streams. • Lakes cool and clear, with a sandy or gravelly bottom and rooted underwater vegetation. • Inhabit lakes with soft bottoms. • Live in lakes up to 30 feet deep. Water temperatures between 65 F and 73 F.

  7. Their eating habits (feeding) • Carnivorous • Feed on smaller fish, shellfish, or insect larvae. What eats them? • Humans for sports and FOOD. • Bigger fish such as walleye, pike muskies, • largemouth bass and salmonids.

  8. Interesting facts • Colors can vary among fish, but generally the perch's back will range from bright green to dark olive green or golden. • Yellow perch are most popular in North Dakota and the Great Lakes. • Perch over 13 or 14 inches are commonly referred to as "jumbos" and are prized among anglers. • When a female white perch is ready to mate, a group of males surrounds her.
