Premise for the Session • The Quality and Food Safety Professional is responsible for assuring safe, consistent product • One mistake can make people ill and cause damage to the company • Companies are bottom line oriented • QA/Food Safety is often seen as a cost center that does not contribute to profit • How do you prosper and survive in this environment? • What skills must you have? • What do we need to do to make this profession attractive? Seasoned professionals who have prospered/survived will share their experiences with you today

Format Presentations by Sharon, Angie and Merle • Sharon and Angie will discuss their experiences in food companies • Merle will discuss what professionals need from an educator and regulator’s standpoint • We will leave 20 minutes for Q&A • It is important that this be an interactive session where we can learn from each other

Setting the Stage Questions to think about • How did you enter this career? • Were you adequately prepared? • Are you a “black and white person” or can you see the gray areas? • How are your relationships with other departments in the company? • Operations, Sales, Marketing, R&D, Finance, Senior Management These are the types of issues that we will be addressing

To Do’s Today • Make a list of issues that you want to discuss at the Q&A • Plan to share your experiences with the group during the Q&A In the very near future • Understand the business environment in which you function • Be credible • Remember that you are there to protect the customer, consumer and the company’s reputation
