CDC Approved Reference Labs • Currently 13 states have an Approved Reference Lab • Texas is one of the 13 states. Missouri is currently not. • Process is Rigorous but can Completed. • Presumptive Diagnosis is done through a “Split Sample” – one sample done at Approved State Reference Lab; Second sent to CDC. If both +, then presumptive Ebola +
Epi Team Interviews • Once a presumptive Ebola + case determined, contact interviews completed • Risk Stratification Done • High Risk (Dallas Case = 10; 3 family and 7 health care workers) • Low Risk (Dallas Case = 38) Monitor for 21 Days • Complex cases – homeless and folks not wanting to stay in place
Texas Case What is Working Well • Decision made at onset to get the right people as close as possible. Remains in the hands of Local Public Health. • Multi-agency, multi-discipline Public Health and Medical Task Force Set up in Dallas County led by Dallas County Deputy Commissioner for Health. • This task force ties into the Dallas County Emergency Response Operations. • State, Federal, and other appropriate representatives are liaisons to the Dallas County Task Force.
