Objectives (1) • Bring together key players in the development and implementation of soil protection policy, soil survey, soil monitoring and soil information systems in South-Eastern Europe • Adoption of Soil Thematic Strategy: Overview of developments. • Soil Framework Directive: Implications for Member States, Acceding Countries, Candidate Countries, Potential Candidate countries? • A regional approach to soil protection?

  3. Objectives (2) • Strengthening collaborations between the countries of south-eastern Europe and with JRC • Information exchange between present countries. • European Soil Bureau Network (ESBN): Core network in support of EU soil policy – enhanced contributions from South-Eastern Europe. • European Soil Data Centre (ESDAC): Inventory of Soil Information systems/Data.

  4. Objectives (3) • Supporting EU Enlargement & Integration • Implications for Chapter 22 (Environment) of acquis communautaire • Soil Thematic Strategy: new legislation to implement! • Support through JRC Enlargement & Integration Programme http://www.jrc.ec.europa.eu/enlargement/action2006 • Example: Summer School on Soil Survey

Objectives (4) • Dissemination of knowledge and Communication • Special EUR report from Workshop • Status and prospect of soil information in south-eastern Europe: soil databases, projects and applications • Soil Resources of Europe –European Soil Bureau Research Report: update South-Eastern Europe contribution
