  5. Obama’s Plans • 1- Bring our troops home: By pulling out about two combat brigades each month. (In hopes that all combat brigades will be gone in 16 months) • 2- No new building of permanent bases, but will keep some troops in the area in case al-Qaeda attempts to build a base in Iraq. • 3- We will press Iraq’s leaders to reconcile, as we let them know: We are leaving. http://i.dailymail.co.uk/i/pix/2008/11/12/article-0-02707244000005DC-477_468x748.jpg http://hyerstandard.com/wp-content/uploads/2008/09/obama_narrowweb__300x4710.jpg

  6. Obama’s Plans continued… • 4- Aggressive diplomacy: keep neighboring countries from meddling Iraq, isolating al Qaeda, support reconciliation among Iraqi sectarian groups, and provide financial aid for the construction of Iraq. • 5- Humanitarian initiative: We plan on using at least $2 billion to expand services for the 2 million Iraqi refugees in Iraq. We will live up to our moral and security responsibility to try to allow Iraqi’s in their home country to feel safe and secure. http://s.wsj.net/media/Obama_Flag_ssv_20080429114317.jpg http://blogs.e-rockford.com/applesauce/files/2008/11/obama_flag.jpg http://graphics.boston.com/resize/bonzai-fba/AP_Photo/2009/02/27/1235755469_4404/539w.jpg

  7. Disbanding the Iraqi Military • Obama commented on the Iraq war in his “Not-the-state-of-union” address. He claimed to “soon announce a way forward in Iraq that leaves Iraq to It’s people and responsibly ends war.” • The 40,000 or so American soldiers who haven’t been pulled from Iraq yet are to become an interim force to aid in training the Iraqi security forces and to provide intelligence and surveillance. And they would be out by around 2011. http://www.huffingtonpost.com/huff-wires/20080329/iraq-to-grow-an-army/images/dec0b6fc-a486-4885-8352-7a8ad41d0106.jpg
