  2. Take Out: Sheet of Paper and Pen (Make Cornell Notes) • Describe at least two different environments where animals live on earth. (2 sentences for credit) • SWBAT: Compare and Contrast photic and aphotic zones of marine biomes. Bell Ringer Objective

  3. Describe A Biome • A biome is a large group of ecosystems that share the same type of climax community. • 2 types (Aquatic and Terrestrial) • Oceans • Tundra • Lakes • Rainforest

  4. How are Biomes Divided?

  5. Describe the Three Types of Aquatic Biomes 1. Marine Biomes Salt water Ex. Oceans 2. Estuaries Mixed Water Ex. where fresh water and salt water mix 3. Freshwater Ex. Lake Michigan!

  6. Think, Pair, Share • Describe where you think most plants and animals live in the ocean? Do they live near the surface, or deep in the ocean? Why do you think this?

  7. Compare and Contrast Photic and Aphotic Zones (Draw a Venn Diagram) • Photic: Shallow, sunlit zone of the ocean Marine Biologist use these areas to study Most plants and marine life Ex: Coastlines, reefs Aphotic Deep part of the ocean little sunlight hard for biologists to study

  8. Compare and Contrast photic and aphotic zones cont. • Talk with a partner for 1 minute about some similarities you think photic and aphotic zones may share. (Be prepared to share)
