Spread of Buddhism Buddha attracted many followers who accompanied him as he preached across Northern India Set up monasteries and convents for meditation, and study Missionaries and traders spread Buddhism across India into major parts of Asia. What is the spread and exchange of ideas called?????

  3. Four Noble Truths • These are the foundations for all Buddhist 1) All life is full of suffering, pain and sorrow 2) All suffering comes from desire 3) To eliminate suffering, eliminate desire 4) To eliminate desire follow the Eightfold Path

  4. Eightfold PathHow do we describe it?Middle between pleasure and self denial Understanding the 4 Noble Truths 2) Morals

Goal of Buddhism • The final goal is to achieve Nirvana • Union with the universe and release from the cycle of rebirth • Can be achieved on one lifetime • Stressed moral principles such as charity, honesty and kindness to all living creatures • Believed in nonviolence, karma, dharma and reincarnation Sound kind of familiar???

  6. Tripitaka :Three baskets of wisdom, collection of teachings The greatest achievement is selflessness.The greatest quality is seeking to serve others.The greatest goodness is a peaceful mind.The greatest meditation is a mind that lets go. The greatest wisdom is seeing through appearances.
