  1. Journey of the spirit, Lesson 14, Two blows of the trumpet

  2. What is the trumpet? • Literally it means a device or a horn which releases a sound, so if we do not have a clue to divert the meaning to a metaphor, then we have to take it literally, and consider it a device, without going into further details, though in the hadeeth of Imam Sajaad (AS) he describes it as a horn or a trumpet which has two ends one is faced tworads the heavens and other is faced towards the earth, and the one who blows it is the angel ISRAFEEL, he will give both blows and his life and death will be by Allah (SWT).

  3. Great sound waves: • Blowing in the trumpet or horn or bugle releases enormous sound waves, no living thing can tolerate it, be it a jinn, or human body or human souls, and the second blow is like an alarm clock wakes the soul up, which enters its physical bodies and comes out of the ground, not the graves, because the whole earth would have been eliminated completely, and this earth is a new one.

  4. Different names of this great sound • US-SAYHA :Cry, scream, screech,.. • US-SAAKHAH: The sound which crates deafness. • UN-NAQR: Making a pecking or swinging or wavering sound, oscillation beat, i.e. blowing the horn. Or say the sound which penetrate the brain like pecking. • AL-QAREA’H: Strong knocking making a beating sound. • AL-ZAJARAH: shout to drive out, drive away or to stop the cattle. • Some of these sounds have been used for the first blow and some has been used for the second, and some for both blows.

  5. There are two blows: • وَنُفِخَ فِي الصُّورِ فَصَعِقَ مَن فِي السَّمَاوَاتِ وَمَن فِي الْأَرْضِ إِلَّا مَن شَاء اللَّهُ ثُمَّ نُفِخَ فِيهِ أُخْرَى فَإِذَا هُم قِيَامٌ يَنظُرُونَ {68} • [Shakir 39:68] And the trumpet shall be blown, so all those that are in the heavens and all those that are in the earth shall swoon (or die), except such as Allah please;( the martyrs, or the 4 angels, or the angel who will blow in the trumpet,..) then it shall be blown again, then lo! they shall stand up awaiting.وَأَشْرَقَتِ الْأَرْضُ بِنُورِ رَبِّهَا وَوُضِعَ الْكِتَابُ وَجِيءَ بِالنَّبِيِّينَ وَالشُّهَدَاء وَقُضِيَ بَيْنَهُم بِالْحَقِّ وَهُمْ لَا يُظْلَمُونَ {69} • [Shakir 39:69] And the earth shall beam with the light of its Lord, and the Book shall be laid down, and the prophets and the witnesses shall be brought up, and judgment shall be given between them with justice, and they shall not be dealt with unjustly.

  6. The first blow of the trumpet • فَإِذَا نُفِخَ فِي الصُّورِ نَفْخَةٌ وَاحِدَةٌ {13} • [Shakir 69:13] And when the trumpet is blown with a single blast,وَحُمِلَتِ الْأَرْضُ وَالْجِبَالُ فَدُكَّتَا دَكَّةً وَاحِدَةً {14} • [Shakir 69:14] And the earth and the mountains are borne away and crushed with a single crushing.فَيَوْمَئِذٍ وَقَعَتِ الْوَاقِعَةُ {15} • [Shakir 69:15] On that day shall the great event come to pass, • وَيَقُولُونَ مَتَى هَذَا الْوَعْدُ إِن كُنتُمْ صَادِقِينَ {48} • [Shakir 36:48] And they say: When will this threat come to pass, if you are truthful?مَا يَنظُرُونَ إِلَّا صَيْحَةً وَاحِدَةً تَأْخُذُهُمْ وَهُمْ يَخِصِّمُونَ {49} • [Shakir 36:49] They wait not for aught but a single cry which will overtake them while they yet contend with one another.

  7. The second trumpet: • فَلَا يَسْتَطِيعُونَ تَوْصِيَةً وَلَا إِلَى أَهْلِهِمْ يَرْجِعُونَ {50} • [Shakir 36:50] So they shall not be able to make a bequest, nor shall they return to their families.وَنُفِخَ فِي الصُّورِ فَإِذَا هُم مِّنَ الْأَجْدَاثِ إِلَى رَبِّهِمْ يَنسِلُونَ {51} • [Shakir 36:51] And the (second) trumpet shall be blown, when lo ! from their graves they shall hasten on to their Lord.قَالُوا يَا وَيْلَنَا مَن بَعَثَنَا مِن مَّرْقَدِنَا هَذَا مَا وَعَدَ الرَّحْمَنُ وَصَدَقَ الْمُرْسَلُونَ {52} • [Shakir 36:52] They shall say: O woe to us! who has raised us up from our sleeping-place? This is what the Beneficent Allah promised and the messengers told the truth.إِن كَانَتْ إِلَّا صَيْحَةً وَاحِدَةً فَإِذَا هُمْ جَمِيعٌ لَّدَيْنَا مُحْضَرُونَ {53} • [Shakir 36:53] There would be naught but a single cry, when lo ! they shall all be brought before Us;

  8. Resurrection describe in 10 ways: • فَإِذَا هُم قِيَامٌ يَنظُرُونَ then lo! they shall stand up awaiting. • وَكُلٌّ أَتَوْهُ دَاخِرِينَ and all shall come to him abased (in humility). • فَإِذَا هُم مِّنَ الْأَجْدَاثِ إِلَى رَبِّهِمْ يَنسِلُونَ when lo ! from their graves they shall hasten on to their Lord. • فَلَا أَنسَابَ بَيْنَهُمْ يَوْمَئِذٍ وَلَا يَتَسَاءلُونَ there shall be no ties of relationship between them on that day, nor shall they ask of each other. • فَجَمَعْنَاهُمْ جَمْعًا so We will gather them all together; • وَنَحْشُرُ الْمُجْرِمِينَ يَوْمَئِذٍ زُرْقًا and We will gather the guilty, blue-eyed, on that day • فَتَأْتُونَ أَفْوَاجًا so you shall come forth in hosts, • فَإِذَا هُمْ جَمِيعٌ لَّدَيْنَا مُحْضَرُونَwhen lo ! they shall all be brought before Us;

  9. 9-Very difficult day for the disbelievers • فَإِذَا نُقِرَ فِي النَّاقُورِ {8} [Shakir 74:8] For when the trumpet is sounded,فَذَلِكَ يَوْمَئِذٍ يَوْمٌ عَسِيرٌ {9} [Shakir 74:9] That, at that time, shall be a difficult day,عَلَى الْكَافِرِينَ غَيْرُ يَسِيرٍ {10} [Shakir 74:10] For the unbelievers, anything but easy • 10- وَمَا أَدْرَاكَ مَا الْقَارِعَةُ {3} • [Shakir 101:3] And what will make you comprehend what the terrible calamity is?يَوْمَ يَكُونُ النَّاسُ كَالْفَرَاشِ الْمَبْثُوثِ {4} • [Shakir 101:4] The day on which men shall be as scattered moths, • خُشَّعًا أَبْصَارُهُمْ يَخْرُجُونَ مِنَ الْأَجْدَاثِ كَأَنَّهُمْ جَرَادٌ مُّنتَشِرٌ {7} • [Shakir 54:7] Their eyes cast down, going forth from their graves as if they were scattered locusts,مُّهْطِعِينَ إِلَى الدَّاعِ يَقُولُ الْكَافِرُونَ هَذَا يَوْمٌ عَسِرٌ {8} • [Shakir 54:8] Hastening to the inviter. The unbelievers shall say: This is a hard day.

  10. They will come out from different earth • يَوْمَ يَخْرُجُونَ مِنَ الْأَجْدَاثِ سِرَاعًا كَأَنَّهُمْ إِلَى نُصُبٍ يُوفِضُونَ {43} • [Shakir 70:43] The day on which they shall come forth from their graves in haste, as if they were hastening on to a goal,خَاشِعَةً أَبْصَارُهُمْ تَرْهَقُهُمْ ذِلَّةٌ ذَلِكَ الْيَوْمُ الَّذِي كَانُوا يُوعَدُونَ {44} • [Shakir 70:44] Their eyes cast down; disgrace shall overtake them; that is the day which they were threatened with.يَوْمَ تُبَدَّلُ الأَرْضُ غَيْرَ الأَرْضِ وَالسَّمَاوَاتُ وَبَرَزُواْ للّهِ الْوَاحِدِ الْقَهَّارِ {48} • [Shakir 14:48] On the day when the earth shall be changed into a different earth, and the heavens (as well), and they shall come forth before Allah, the One, the Supreme.

  11. No relations for the disbelievers • فَإِذَا جَاءتِ الصَّاخَّةُ {33} • [Shakir 80:33] But when the deafening cry comes,يَوْمَ يَفِرُّ الْمَرْءُ مِنْ أَخِيهِ {34} • [Shakir 80:34] The day on which a man shall fly from his brother,وَأُمِّهِ وَأَبِيهِ {35} • [Shakir 80:35] And his mother and his father,وَصَاحِبَتِهِ وَبَنِيهِ {36} • [Shakir 80:36] And his spouse and his son--لِكُلِّ امْرِئٍ مِّنْهُمْ يَوْمَئِذٍ شَأْنٌ يُغْنِيهِ {37} • [Shakir 80:37] Every man of them shall on that day have an affair which will occupy him.وُجُوهٌ يَوْمَئِذٍ مُّسْفِرَةٌ {38} • [Shakir 80:38] (Many) faces on that day shall be bright,ضَاحِكَةٌ مُّسْتَبْشِرَةٌ {39} • [Shakir 80:39] Laughing, joyous.وَوُجُوهٌ يَوْمَئِذٍ عَلَيْهَا غَبَرَةٌ {40} • [Shakir 80:40] And (many) faces on that day, on them shall be dust,تَرْهَقُهَا قَتَرَةٌ {41} • [Shakir 80:41] Darkness shall cover them.أُوْلَئِكَ هُمُ الْكَفَرَةُ الْفَجَرَةُ {42} • [Shakir 80:42] These are they who are unbelievers, the wicked.

  12. 3 stages for resurrection • Destruction of the Earth • Nothing after that • Recreation of different Earth and our bodies will come out of that earth. • After the destruction ESRAFEEL the angel of horn is left, and God commands him to die, after that he commands him to come back again to life and commands him to blow the second trumpet. • Some scholars say the souls of the Infallibles (AS) and the martyrs will not die, they are the exempted ones. • In some narration the time between the two blow is 40 years, God knows which type of years.
