  2. What is the LLI KIT The Fountas & Pinnell Leveled Literacy Intervention System (LLI) is a small-group, supplementary literacy intervention designed to help teachers provide powerful, daily, small-group instruction for the lowest achieving students at their grade level. Through systematically designed lessons and original, engaging leveled books, LLI supports learning in both reading and writing, helps students expand their knowledge of language and words and how they work. The goal of LLI is to bring students to grade level achievement in reading.

  3. Targeting Levels for Interventions

  4. Lessons Lessons across the seven systems progress from level A (beginning reading in kindergarten) through level Z (represents competencies at the middle and secondary school level) on the F&P Text Level Gradient™. Header

  5. Alignment to Strategic Timeline 1.5Design a system that reinforces student risk-taking, creativity, innovation, and thinking outside the box, rewarding growth in knowledge rather than regurgitation of information. 3.1Use relevant and innovative real world applications to develop problem solving skills while still applying TEKS readiness standards to current courses.

  6. Rationale Data collected from the elementary campuses during the year 2012-2013 indicates that we have an estimate of 1513 students that are in Tier II and Tier III due to literacy needs. Data collected from the elementary campuses during the year 2012-2013 indicates that 105 students that were referred for dyslexia did not meet the identification criteria.  The LLI Kits will be used to support the students in LISD who are in Tier II and Tier III due to Literacy needs. The classroom teacher, Literacy Dyslexia Interventionists, Literacy Specialist and any other support personnel at the campuses will use the kits.

  7. 2013-2014 Implementation Lakshmi Valdes (Literacy Intervention Supervisor) facilitated Kathy Northcutt (Consultant, Fountas and Pinnell) who provided professional learning on the Leveled Literacy Intervention System for 50 elementary interventionists and classroom teachers. Mrs. Valdes provided a series of professional learning on Response to Intervention to elementary assistant principals, RTI facilitators, Literacy Coaches, Counselors and Literacy Dyslexia Interventionist. Ms. Valdes has been working with a RTI committee to support the district RTI process and the appropriate interventions and assessments to monitor students’ progress.
