Alternative Tobacco By Max Huebscher and David Quinones
Bidis • They are small, hand rolled cigarettes imported mostly from south Asia and India. • They have other names like kreteks and clove cigarettes. • They have a higher level of nicotine, tar and carbon monoxide than average cigarettes • They come in different flavors to appeal to different people. • They pose a higher threat of heart disease and many oral cavity, pharynx, larynx and lung cancer.
Dissolvable Tobacco • It comes in different packages to appeal to younger people • It also comes in different flavors. • The nicotine is released different ways like there is nicotine in the end of the stick and there are pills you can take to get the nicotine. • This is a relatively new product so there is not much long term studies that have been done on these products but it has nicotine in it so it is still harmful to you
Hookah • These are just as dangerous as regular cigarettes even though the hookah is filtered through water. • There is more nicotine in a hookah than in a cigarette. • Hookahs deposit huge amount of smoke in the lungs. • 45 minutes of smoking a hookah is the equivalent of smoking 50 cigarettes.
E-Cigarettes • This gives the smoker the effect of nicotine without the tobacco, carbon monoxide and the tar. • They do not emit second hand smoke. • They are used the same way as you use a regular cigarette. • This does contain cancer causing material such as nitrosamines.
