Activities as of 12/31/2011 Recent Conference Performance Accomplishments • Organized well attended History Session at JPC with invited panel of distinguished liquid propulsion experts: Liquid Propulsion Pioneers; Atlas - Birth, Evolution, and Options; session taped and archived by CPIA, with DVDs available for sale • Organized a very well attended special Invited Session: The Legacy of Robert Sackheim • Organized Liquid Propulsion Short Course at JPC 2011: 23 registered from U.S. + 4 foreign countries • Sponsored Two $1,000 Liquid Propulsion Awards: Student Award and Young Professional Award • Led Wyld Award selection committee (with EP, SP, and N&FFP TCs) • Selected Best Paper in liquid propulsion from JPC 2010 • Provided 4 inputs to AIAA’s Congressional Visit Day key issue request: Integrated Space Launch Roadmap, Balance between SLS / MPCV and Commercial Crew programs, Need for ITAR Reform, and Need for Sustained Propulsion R&D JPC 2011 • Special Sessions: • Upper Stage Engine Panel • Legacy of Robert Sackheim • Liquid Propulsion Pioneers • Atlas Launch Vehicle History Abstracts Received: 149 Abstracts Accepted: 134 Sessions: 32 Withdrawals: 32 No-Shows: TBD Issues / Help Needed • Cost associated with bringing back retired distinguished liquid propulsion experts: no sponsoring organization (if still in existence!) • LPTC has over 40 video taped personal recollections of liquid propulsion pioneers. Looking for suggestions for accessibility and publication. Initiatives & Plans • Continue restructuring/reorganization of liquid propulsion short course to ensure relevance, combination of breadth and depth • Initiate activity to encourage STEM participation in propulsion • Continue to provide a balanced yearly review of liquid propulsion in Aerospace America Financial Status • Balance as of Dec. 2011: approx. $4,500.
