  2. The Catalog Interchange Format (CIF) was commonly used to connect the procurement system with the supplier catalog. • However, CIF catalog had several drawbacks, hence was eventually replaced by PunchOut, a sophisticated protocol that facilitates efficient business transactions between the customer’s procurement application and the supplier’s site. The PunchOut protocol provides real time pricing and availability to its users. This means, any changes in supplier catalog are visible to the user in real time. Moreover, suppliers can even represent product configuration and even display marketing content in PunchOut catalog

  3. SAP PunchOut Vs. PeopleSoft PunchOut • Procurement System The biggest difference lies in the procurement system that the PunchOut catalog is connected to. SAP PunchOut catalog solutionprovides a direct connection between the SAP procurement system and the supplier’s contract catalog. On the other hand, PeopleSoft PunchOut is a protocol that connects PeopleSoft procurement system directly with the supplier’s external catalog.

  4. SAP PunchOut Vs. PeopleSoft PunchOut • Communication In SAP PunchOut, open catalog interface (OCI) format is commonly used for connecting SAP procurement system with external PunchOut catalog for business transactions. The OCI format ensures accurate data exchange between the supplier’s catalog and SAP shopping cart. On the other hand, with PeopleSoft PunchOut, communication between source and receiver takes place in cXML format. In fact, the cXML standard is used by various other procurement systems such as Ariba, Oracle and SciQuest to facilitate transactions with external catalog.
