Create a naming convention for yourself so that it doesn’t get confusing when you have hundreds of Bricks. • Brick IP Address and Mask- Is mandatory, even if the Brick will be operating in layer 2. • The ALSMS address should be filled in for you. Check it. • Gateway IP address. This would be the address of the nearest router to a Brick. If the Brick is going to a remote site. If not leave this blank. • Also select the appropriate Brick Type with the model that you are using. • See example screen on the following page.
Configuring and Activating a Brick • The next thing that you want to do is add a firewall rule-set to one of your physical interfaces. • The ALSMS has many pre-configured rule-sets that you can use. You can also modify or add to these rule-sets to customize them for your network. • The Administrative-Zone rule-set is configured to; secure your ALSMS and at the same time allow communications between the Bricks and the ALSMS. You should apply the Administrative-Zone to each Brick. • On the Bricks any rule-set can go on any interface. If you are configuring the Brick that will be at the site with the ALSMS put Administrative-Zone on the physical interface that the ALSMS will physically be connected to. If you are configuring a remote Brick you can put it on any interface. • Note: It’s strongly recommended to make sure Administrative-Zone is on each Brick to ensure that you won’t lock ALSMS communications out of that Brick by applying other rule-sets to all of the interfaces.
Configuring and Activating a Brick • Click on the Policy Assignment Tab • Double click on the interface where you want Administrative-Zone
Select the pull-down menu in Zone Ruleset and select administrativezone. Click Static. Click OK Click File>Save Securing the Administrative Zone

You can do it with a Flash Drive, Floppy drive, FTP or serial port. • The next two slides will show you how to boot the Brick with a flash drive and a floppy drive. • As you can imagine the flash drive method is the more efficient method. • If you have a flash drive that is bootable follow the instructions on the next slide. If you don’t but you do have a floppy drive follow the instructions on the following slide for the “Floppy Drive Method”. • You do not need to do both!

Click OK. • Once the flash drive is done, double click on the Safely Remove Hardware icon at the bottom right of your screen • Insert the flash drive in the USB port of the Brick and reboot the Brick. • You will hear a single beep notifying you that the process has started and then three beeps notifying you when the process is complete. • Remove the flash drive from the USB port on the Brick and reboot the Brick. • If you have completed this process you can skip the next slide.

(Note: it will take a minute for the Brick to start communicating with the ALSMS). • Note that you can configure as many Bricks as your ALSMS license allows up to 1000 Bricks per ALSMS. • See manual if you are configuring redundant ALSMS servers or redundant Bricks. The installation process is slightly different in those cases. • Assuming that your Brick is up and you see a green checkmark you are done with this process. • Congratulations.
