  2. Lovers… • Apollo left Delphi to be with Hyacinthus and joined him in Sparta, near the Eurotas River.

  3. This Is Sparta…(sorry)

  4. When I’m With You… • Apollo didn’t act as a god when he was with Hyacinthus. • “Quiver and lyre were nothing to him there…” • He did work like carrying nets and leashing dogs. • He probably got new callouses.

  5. Hanging out…

  6. Let’s Get Naked And… • One day at noon, the couple decided to rub oil on themselves and throw the discus around.

  7. Oops… • Apollo goes first and underestimates his godliness • Hyacinthus, eager for his turn, races to catch the thrown disc. • He fails.

  8. The Disc Bounces… • Death ensues

  9. I Will Remember You… • Apollo vows never to forget Hyacinthus • A new flower blooms: the hyacinth • Marked with the words “Ai, Ai”, Greek for “Alas”

  11. The Beat Goes On… • Spartan men kept his memory by honoring him during a three day festival called the Hyakinthaea Festival • One day to remember his death, and two days to celebrate his ressurection as a flower.
