Student Leadership2013 “A leader is one who knows the way, goes the way, And shows the way.”
JESUS’ VISION FOR SHARED LEADERSHIP • His time of ministry was short – 3 years – so he needed a group of people who he trusted who would carry on His message • Jesus chose ‘random’ people as his special followers • He was not so concerned about what their job was, rather what qualities they possessed in their heart • The apostles trying to understand sometimes what was required of them and Jesus understandably, would get frustrated with them • After Pentecost, they did a great job of preaching his word
PETER – married – FISHERMAN - Impulsive; later - bold in preaching about Jesus • JOHN – FISHERMAN * # - Ambitious, Judgmental, later - very loving • JAMES – FISHERMAN * # - Ambitious, short-tempered judgmental, deeply committed to Jesus. • ANDREW – FISHERMAN # - Eager to bring others to Jesus • PHILIP - Questioning attitude • BARTHOLOMEW - Honesty & Straight forwardness • THOMAS – Courage & Doubt • MATTHEW – TAX COLLECTOR - Despised outcast because of his dishonest career • JAMES – Not much is written about this James. • THADDEUS – Not much is written about Thaddeus. • SIMON – ZEALOT - Fierce patriotism • JUDAS – THE TREASURER OF THE GROUP - Treacherous & Greedy
SAINTS DEMONSTRATED QUALITIES THAT IMITATED JESUS’ QUALITIES • What are some of these qualities???
REFLECTION TIME • THINK ABOUT YOURSELF AND YOUR SPECIAL QUALITIES? • WHAT UNIQUE AND SPECIAL GIFTS DO YOU BRING TO THIS GROUP?
“A good leader inspires people to have confidence in the leader, a great leader inspires people to have confidence in themselves.” “A good objective of leadership is to help those who are doing poorly to do well and to help those who are doing well to do even better.” “A leader is great, not because of his or her power, but because of his or her ability to empower others.”
