  2. General Information for Grus • Grus was created at the end of the 1600’s • 1 of the 12 constellations Dutch navigators Pieter Dirkszoon Keyser and Fredrick de Houtman had created • Represents a long necked wading bird, the Crane

  3. Grus General Information Continued • Alternative names for Grus include Krane Grus, Phoenicopterus, and Heron • Stars included in Grus are Alnair and assorted stars from Piscis Austrinus (the Southern Fish) • No legends or mythology are associated with this constellation

  4. General Information for Tucana • Was created between 1595 and 1597 • Again, was 1 of the 12 constellations Dutch navigators Pieter Dirkszoon Keyser and Fredrick de Houtman had created • Some Alternative names include Den Indiaenschen Exster, Indies Lang ghenaemt, and Toucan

  5. Tucana General Information Continued • Contains the Small Magellan Cloud (SMC) and Globular Cluster 47 Tucanae (NGC 104) • The SMC is 200,000 Light years away and is located -72 Degrees Declination • NGC 104 is 13,400 Light years away and is located -72 degrees Declination
