About the European Disability Forum • Umbrella organisation • 80 million Europeans with disabilities in Europe (15% EU population) • Organisationof persons with disabilities, run by persons with disabilities • Fight against discrimination and promote the Human Rights of persons with disabilities • Full implementation of the UN Convention on the Rights of Persons with disabilities • Advocacy organisation at European level • Closely work with the European Union, the Council of Europe and the United Nations

  3. ICT, key enabler for persons with disabilities • Recognised by the United Nations Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities • Disability movement campaigning for equal access to Information and Communication Technologies (ICT) • European Union moving forward, but many remaining challenges (both in policy-making and implementation)

  4. Recent achievements • Web Accessibility Directive (adopted) • Audiovisual Media ServicesDirective (preliminarytext) • Electronic Communications Code (preliminary text) Challenges at transposition into national legislation & implementation

  5. European Accessibility Act • Many ICT products & services covered • Harmonised accessibility requirements • Aspects currently at stake: • Public procurement and EU funds • Exclusion of PSAPs (Public Safety Access Points) for 112 • Limited coverage of Self Service Terminals • Exemption of microenterprises Join us in our campaign for a strong EAA!

  6. Conclusions • Strong policy framework • Meaningful involvement of persons with disabilities • Change of mindset in the ICT community that results in ICT solutions useful for the social care sector
