  2. 7.01 – A runner acquires the right to an unoccupied base when he touches it without being put out. He is entitled to the base until put out or forced to vacate it for another runner legally entitled to that base. 7.02 – In advancing, a runner shall touch 1st, 2nd,3rd and home in that order. If forced to return, must retouch all bases in reverse Rule 7.00The Runner

  3. Rule 7.00The Runner • 7.03 – Two runners cannot occupy the same base. Preceding runner owns base. • 7.05(g) – Two bases awarded from a thrown ball goes into dead ball territory • 7.05(h) – One base awarded when pitcher throws wild • Governed by position at time of pitch

  5. Rule 7.00The Runner • 7.06(b) – If no play being made on runner, play continues and awards made after play stops. If runner proceeds past intended base, he does so at his own peril • 7.07 – A catcher or fielder cannot step on or in front of home base on a steal without possession of the ball

  6. Rule 7.00The Runner • 7.08(a) – Any runner is out when he is more than 3 feet on a direct line between bases to avoid being tagged, except for avoiding interference • 7.08(b) – A runner is out when he interferes with a thrown ball or hinders a player making a play on a batted ball

  7. Rule 7.00The Runner • 7.08(d) – A runner is out when he does not retouch a base after a fair or foul ball is legally caught • 7.08(f) – A runner is out when touched by a fair ball in fair territory before the ball has passed an infielder

  8. Rule 7.00The Runner • 7.09 – Governs “Interference” • 7.09(b) – Hits or bunts a ball a second time. If bat is dropped and ball rolls against the bat in fair territory and no interference occurs, ball is live and in play • 7.09(f) – A BR or runner interferes after being put out.

  9. Rule 7.00The Runner • 7.09(i) – a base coach at 3rd or 1st touching or holding a runner or physically assists him in leaving 3rd or 2nd • 7.09(m) – a fair ball touches a runner on fair territory before being touched or goes by an infielder

  10. Rule 7.00The Runner • 7.10(a) – After a fly ball is caught, a runner fails to retouch his original base before he or his original base is touched. Appeal play. • 7.10(b) – while advancing or returning to a base, fails to retouch bases in order • 7.10(e) – after a runner overruns or overslides 1st base and does not immediately return to the base, when he or the base is touched
