  7. Nile Perch Example: Effects on People • Huge increase in food availability for locals (positive) • Decline of small fisheries and increase in large fishing operations (positive or negative) • Increase in fish exports, providing more money and jobs (positive)

  8. Example: Effects on Ecosystems • Extinction of 200 species of cichlids • Four-Fold increase in algae levels, which has reduced oxygen availability within the lake • Increase in number of insects • Deforestation (increase of trees cut down to process Nile perch)
